After the intense heat and stress of the previous week I was nervous to head into another one. But, on Sunday afternoon when we were preparing to go into a brand new week it began to go better immediately. The weather cooled down and it began to rain. It brought the dust down and made us all feel better emotionally and physically. There were only 14 kids that came into camp. All jr. highers. There were 12 girls and 2 boys in all. Each girl counselor ended up with just 3 girls each. This made for a special week of really getting to talk and bond with this very sweet group of kids that came.
My girls were so good for me! I really enjoyed getting to know them. God also allowed me to get much needed rest and calm that I would need for the rest of the summer. All of the campers were really quiet and calm for the most part. It rained nearly every day while they were there which made for a different schedule but no one seemed to mind too much. This meant that there was time to play lots of games, learn new dances, do skits, have worship in the barn, and talk and paint nails in the cabins. And when we were outdoors no one was complaining of feeling like they were getting heatstroke. It was wonderful!
A good many of the kids that came also loved to read so having so much to be able to enjoy their books during quiet time seemed to make them pretty happy too. I loved the campers that I had that week and enjoyed one of the best weeks of the summer. Another thing that made the week so fun was that ranch camps much needed lead, Ellen, came in to work. She helped to plan, organize and encourage and was a bright light to all of the counselors there especially during the hard weeks that were still to come. I even got to take a horseback ride at the end of the week.
